Fingerlakes Jaunt 2008 Part II

Among the fingerlakes region, Keuka Lake is known as the "Lady-of-the-lakes" (the layout of the lake may suggest "The Lady" has her legs in the air!) The Iroquois translation for Keuka is "Canoe Landing" but has also been known as "Crooked Lake" by early settlers. Traveling southward along the lush farmlands surrounding the eastern side of the "Y" shaped lake brings us to Rooster Hill Winery. Marsha and Karen were the presenters at our tasting, describing, and advising pairings of Chardonnay, Rieslings, Gewurztraminer, and Traminette, as well as Rooster Hill's own "Silver Pencil" and yes Dave, I did detect "Buttered Toast" in the '06 Chardonnay!

Moving into Rooster Hill's Reds, found Pinot Noir, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Lemberger and the delightfully semi-dry Rosecomb Red specially offered by Rooster Hill. Outside the owners have strategically placed a mascot which has seen more action than a petting zoo, but it was the magnificent collection of classic automobiles that stole the show, garnering enthusiastic accolades and recollections of fond memories every step of the way!
